San Bernardino East Peak via Forsee and John’s Meadow

We are a bit behind getting into hiking summer shape, so we decided to do something about it. We ended up with a bit of a tougher hike than we initially intended.

White and Onyx Mountains

Summits #92 and #93 of the Sierra Clubs Hundred Peaks Section for me were White Mountain and Onyx Peak in the San Bernardino Range.

Cactus-to-Clouds, May 2018

On May 12, 2018 our little hiking group hiked the (in)famous Cactus-to-Clouds trial from downtown Palm Springs (~450ft elevation) to the top o San Jacinto Peak (10,834ft) and down to the tram mountain station.  It was Jack and Paul’s first time for this tough route. For me it was the 10 year anniversary of myContinue reading “Cactus-to-Clouds, May 2018”

Silver Mountain

Silver Peak is the top of Blackhawk Mountain on the eastern side of the San Bernardino’s. This hike was more of a desert hike and much more like the typical Desert

Sugarloaf and Lightening Gulch

Uwe and Srisuda visited our cabin for a hike up Sugarloaf Mountain. This is the highest mountain in the immediate Big Bear Lake area, just a few feet under 10,000 ft.

Culp’s Valley

Dorie and I, and Srisuda and Uwe took a little camping trip to Culp Valley. The weather was perfect and the full moon spectacular. This trip was spurred on by a guided hike offered by the Anza Borrego Foundation.

In search of Jack’s Cabin

Dorie and I took off Saturday in search for gold and Jack’s Cabin. We left from the desert divide trailhead off Table Mountain Road and headed to Gold Hill. At the base of Gold Hill were the ruins of an old miner’s rock house for the Katy Did Mine. The climb up Gold Hill wasContinue reading “In search of Jack’s Cabin”

Pine Mountain & Lion Peak

The 5 hikers +1 started out yesterday for Pine Mountain and Lion Peak on the Desert Divide. We expected the start to be on the cold side – high 30’s, but it turned out to be in the low 30’s. The surprise to us came when we first started to see the Divide from HighwayContinue reading “Pine Mountain & Lion Peak”
