Mount Inyo is another peak I have been eyeing for a long time. Conditions need to be right for this strenuous hike, there is no water along the way and temperatures in summer get prohibitively high.

It’s another drought year in California, not good. A side effect is that hiking in the Sierra starts earlier. Olancha Peak has been on my radar for a long time. I drove up to the Sage Flat staging area in the afternoon, set up camp, and turned in early since I wanted to start with first light the next day.

Some list this peak rather than the other Marble peak (which we climbed years ago) to the southeast on a nearby ridge. The later seems to be in better agreement with the little map in the book. To cover our bets we decided to climb this one also.

Uwe has been working on a new list of Desert Peaks. He had 3 in mind in the Joshua Tree NP area and invited me and John.
