With Jack still on the John Muir Trail and Kevin heading up to the Sierra for a weekend of technical climbing on some peaks I could not stand the thought of missing out 🙂

On Friday evening Marisa, Quinn, Srisuda and I met at Gray’s Meadow’s campground west of the town of Independence in preparation for a 3 day / 2 night backpacking hike starting from Onion Valley. Our first trip to this area was in 2011.
Sawmill Pass, 4 Day Backpack, August 2019
Sawmill Pass is one of the more difficult passes from the east into the Sierra Nevada. This is mostly because it starts at 4600 ft in the desert and tops out at 11,347 ft, with some ups and downs this leads to almost 7000 ft elevation gain.
