New England Leaf Peeper Trip October 2021
Seeing the fall foliage in New England is one of the most spectacular and iconic trips you can take. Dorie and I took off to do some leaf Peeping in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine and were lucky enough to hit the peak color.
McGee Pass, September 2021
Large fires and extreme fire danger again canceled a lot of September hiking in the Sierra. We were lucky to get a brief window with good conditions. On the drive up Owens Valley I had my doubts that the hike would happen. The valley was smoke-filled and we did not see any of the SierraContinue reading “McGee Pass, September 2021”
Piute Pass, July 2021

The extreme multi-year drought continues and the snow levels for the southern Sierra only reached about 50% of normal. A side effect is that hiking at elevation is already possible in June.
Cleghorn and Cajon Mountains June 2021
Two mountains were left on my San Bernardino List of the Sierra Club 100 Peaks List (actually 280 mtns.)
Cedar Mesa Utah May 2021
American Indian history has always been interesting to me, so for our annual Father/Daughter trip this year, Quinn and I traveled to southern Utah to find and explore some ancient Anasazi ruins.
San Gorgonio Summit Bivouac
Looking for some solitude I did a quick, last-minute hike up San Gorgonio with bivouac on the summit. This was something I always had wanted to do. Forecast conditions were favorable with no wind and lows around 50 F (10 C).
