We scheduled a San Gorgonio day hike from South Fork and during the preparations I learned that the lake levels for Dry and Dollar Lakes where as high as they hadn’t been in years. Since I had never seen Dollar Lake with water Srisuda and I decided to make it an overnight hike with aContinue reading “San Gorgonio with Dollar Lake Camp”

Seven Pines Spring Hike, April 24th 2019
Matt came to town for a visit and naturally we wanted to do a hike. Initially we planned to do a nice desert hike, but then temperatures for the available dates were forecast way too high. So we settled on a “classic”, 7 Pines Trail on San Jacinto.
Stops between Moab and Cedar City – April 13, 2019
After our White Rim Trail adventure we were faced with the long drive home to SoCal. We did it in 2 days and on the first day we took the slower route to take in some more sights and do a little hike.
Neon Canyon / Golden Cathedral, April 8, 2019
We were on our way to Canyonlands NP for a mountain bike ride along the White Rim Trail. Since it’s a long drive from SoCal we decided to take a few days on the way up and check out some of the sights along the way. So when Jack suggested this bike ride for AprilContinue reading “White Rim Trail, 10-12 April 2019 (by Uwe)”
Snowshoeing Onyx Peak
We had a good February for snow here in Southern California, but now in March it’s warming up and the snow is rapidly disappearing. One has to grab opportunities as they present themselves. So when a storm dumped some fresh snow in the San Bernardino mountains we decided to go out for a quick snowshoeContinue reading “Snowshoeing Onyx Peak”
Snow Camping – San Bernardino Mountains
This winter is bringing some good snow opportunities. So when another storm dropped a nice layer of snow on the local mountains Kevin and I did not hesitate to head out again. This time the focus was on camping in snow. I had never done it before and Kevin also has limited experience in it.
Snowshoeing San Jacinto
A few days of heavy precipitation were forecast in our area, that meant lots of fresh snow in the higher mountains around here. Kevin suggested we head out to higher elevations for some snow fun the day after the biggest storm moved through. We settled on San Jacinto because of the big 3 (Baldy, Jacinto,Continue reading “Snowshoeing San Jacinto”
Viadukt Wanderweg, Altenbeken, Germany
For our visit to Germany my niece and I had planned to attempt a 100 km ( ~62 miles) continuous walk. Unfortunately illness interfered with our plans. By the time both of us where in shape again for such an attempt we were out of time. So we settled on a simple day hike.
