After getting up early we drove to Chios, returned the car and hopped on the daily ferry boat\u00a0to \u00c7e\u015fme. When we arrived in Turkey it was very quite and we were wonder\u0131ng where everyone was in the middle of the week.\u00a0 We quickly learned that it was a public holiday (Republic day, celebrating the proclamat\u0131on of the repbulic by Atat\u00fcrk in 1923. So we were in a bit of a bind since we could not change money as planned\u00e7<\/p>\n
We found a bus to Izm\u0131r and it appeared that our\u00a015 Lira (left from 10 days ago) should get us there.\u00a0 Once\u00a0 on the bus the conductor wanted 22 Lira however.\u00a0 Somehow we must have had a little\u00a0 misunderstand with the guy at the bus station.\u00a0 This akward situation brought about a memorable l\u0131ttle travel experience:\u00a0 When the conductor signaled that he was not interested in my dollars or euros the elder gentleman across the aile (travelling with a number of family members) simply paid the fare and I handed him the approximate amount \u0131n Euros (assum\u0131ng a conservat\u0131ve exchange rate).\u00a0 He did not speak English nor did anyone on the bus around us, so he just smiled at me and I smiled back and we shuk hands.<\/p>\n
Once in Izmir we found a little local bus to Sel\u00e7uk (gate way to Ephesus) where we took the first best room we came across.\u00a0 Now we are back from some great dinner and exploring around town (oh and we found an ATM also:)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
