Quinn and Ken came to visit over Thanksgiving. Ken had never been to the Anza Borrego Desert so a road trip and hike to the Indian Hill area was in order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

This area had been inhabited by California Indians since 4,000 BC. The Diegueno and Kumeyaay tribes were the most recent. The Blue Sun cave is in this vicinity. After hiking to the actual Indian Hill located on the topo maps, all we were able to find is some morteros. I had not been here in years and forgot the exact location of the cave. Dorie remembered best and we headed to another hill a few hundred yards away. Once we found the large area of morteros, we both knew immediately we were at the cave. The paintings are still well preserved and thankfully not yet marred by graffiti. The main painting is of a blue sun burst. The blue colorings of the pictographs are pretty rare. We explored a larger shelter cave and then made the short hike back to the car. A good day.
