Cactus-to-Clouds, May 2018
On May 12, 2018 our little hiking group hiked the (in)famous Cactus-to-Clouds trial from downtown Palm Springs (~450ft elevation) to the top o San Jacinto Peak (10,834ft) and down to the tram mountain station. It was Jack and Paul’s first time for this tough route. For me it was the 10 year anniversary of my first C2C (June 7th, 2008). At the time I did it solo since I did not know anyone who would join me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. The trail back then was much less traveled and I was warned by those familiar with it that it was not hiked every week that time of year! How times have changed…Continue reading “Cactus-to-Clouds, May 2018”

In search of Jack’s Cabin
Dorie and I took off Saturday in search for gold and Jack’s Cabin. We left from the desert divide trailhead off Table Mountain Road and headed to Gold Hill. At the base of Gold Hill were the ruins of an old miner’s rock house for the Katy Did Mine. The climb up Gold Hill was more like huge boulder hopping. There was a very Continue reading “In search of Jack’s Cabin”
Pine Mountain & Lion Peak
The 5 hikers +1 started out yesterday for Pine Mountain and Lion Peak on the Desert Divide. We expected the start to be on the cold side – high 30’s, but it turned out to be in the low 30’s. The surprise to us came when we first started to see the Divide from Highway 371 above the Paradise Café.Continue reading “Pine Mountain & Lion Peak”
